Everything this guy says about Croatia is true...

I just found this video on YouTube and this guy is absolutely right about everything. This guy travels the world and makes videos listing the 5 things you are going to love and hate about each country he visits. However, when he lists the 5 things you will hate, he called them "minor annoyances". If you meet a Croatian who begs you to go to Croatia, don't take his or her word for it. Talk to an American or non-Croatian who went. I have not yet met one person in my life that has been dissappointed. Go and you will see what I mean!

Sorry, I'm on my iPhone and I can't really embed the video on YouTube properly so the link is above.

A golf course in Croatia? Could it really be?

Not so fast....

it may require a vote of the Croatian people...

I just found this article on the Croatian Times website.

It discusses a referendum that would allow the people to decide whether a planned golf course can be built in Srdj, the mountainous region that overlooks the city of Dubrovnik in the south Dalmatian region.

This is a political victory for the Friends of the Earth Croatia who have been fighting the planned golf course in addition to a planned power plant in the region. This is also a political victory for the citizens Croatia because it is the first that Croatian citizens have used their power to force a referendum.

I've been to Dubrovnik about 13 years ago. Srdj which towers above the old section of Dubrovnik, also known as the pearl of the Adriatic, is a beautiful sight.

While I agree that a power plant would be an awful thing to put on Srdj,  I don't see a problem with a golf course. A golf course will be great for Croatian tourism and will bring richer guests back to Croatia which desperately needs it as Montenegro steals some of the attention after their split from Serbia, but before you start questioning my politics and call me a "hater of the environment that wants to see polar bears die and trees cut down for the benefit of a corporation, " let me explain to some of you non-Croatians that Croatia does not have one golf course, not one! American investors have come to Croatia in awe of its beauty and some have even tried to get through the bureaucratic red tape to build a golf course or sports center or something similar to attract more people to a country that has so much to offer, but the people have always said "no" because sorry to say, the Croatian people are stubborn! They look at a project like this and complain about all the tourists that it will bring but then, when the season rolls around, and there is a lack of tourists and they have no money, they complain. Putting this to a vote of an entire Croatian public is most likely an immediate victory for the Friends of the Earth Croatia who pushed for the referendum.

With that said, I am against the location of the golf course, not for environmental reasons, but because Dubrovnik, which is already on the UNESCO's World Heritage List, can advertise itself. It doesn't need a golf course. There are plenty of other locations where they can build one but there have always been people in the way.

If you play golf, imagine playing on a course at the top of the mountain in this picture and looking at that clean blue sea below and a beautiful beach. I don't even play golf but I would start just to be on a course like this! I am not talking about this location in particular. To be honest, I don't know what that picture is of (I know the general area) but I don't know much about the location. I pulled it up randomly from a Google Image search,

Put a golf course in an area that still needs some life. I'm being bias here, but how about the Island of Krk?!!!
